Establishing Eye Contact and Joint Attention in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders
This presentation will review various procedures for developing eye contact and joint attention and participants will leave with examples of specific programs for increasing these skills.
Participants will:
Identify why eye contact is important in the development of various skills and the importance of an analysis of the controlling variables for eye contact
- Describe procedures for teaching joint attention: responding and initiating
- Describe procedures for teaching to follow eye gaze
- Describe the procedures for establishing others as discriminative stimuli and reinforcers, and conditioning eye contact as a reinforcer
These workshops are designed for those who are implementing skill acquisition programming and have a basic understanding of Skinner’s Analysis of Verbal Behaviour. Educators, BCBA, BCaBA, RBT as well as parents may benefit from these workshops.
